European Collectors Organize

Over the past six months, Jean-Bernard Kazmierczek (a member of the GCS and the BGCS) has been at the forefront of a movement to organize a new group of European collectors.  Based in France, the principals held an organization meeting in May near Paris and named their inaugural board of directors.  Lally Segard will be Honorary President.  The board includes Jean-Bernard Kazmierczak (President), Christoph Meister (International Vice President), Zavier de Taffin (Vice President), Georges Jeanneau (Secretary) and Henri Jakubowicz (Treasurer).

Naming the organization took some thought.  “After a suggestion from John Hanna, it is ‘The European Association of Golf Historians and Collectors’ (EAGHC).  We consider that choosing to name ourselves historians (and not only collectors) is a very important fact,” write Jean-Bernard.

One goal is to establish a virtual European Golf Museum, including a Hall of Fame, a listing of early continental golf courses and an illustrated history of early European ball games and artifacts.  This long overdue documentation will be welcome by historians around the world.  Already, collectors from Finland, Germany, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic and other countries have expressed interest in joining.  “You know that we received on the Continent the support of so many prominent figures,” says Jean-Bernard, “but the support of the GCS and BGCS are extremely important for us.”

The inaugural meeting of the EAGHC will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at The Chantilly Golf Club.  The day will include playing golf on the Vineuil course, lunch and the meeting, including historical talks.  An information dinner is planned for the evening before.

Christoph Meister will edit the first issue of the organization’s magazine, which will debut in December 2006.  Anyone interested in submitting articles can contact Mr. Meister directly at cnmeister@t-online.de.
