Well we did it again. Those who came to Dayton were treated to a few days of spring right in the middle of winter. It was one of those rare weekends that just about every region of the country had unseasonably warm weather. Maybe our friends in Canada kept the jet stream up there so they would have nice travel weather and it’s a good thing as several of them came down. We had two visitors from England and dozens from a number of different states including Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Texas, North Carolina, Georgia and others.
It seems to be a current trend that all types of shows have fewer people selling items and in many cases fewer buyers on hand. In Dayton we had fewer tables but lots of buyers. I had comments from many that this show had been great for them as they were able to either sell or buy something special.
The first hospitality night took place on Thursday evening and our room was decorated in a tropical motif. Most of the guests that night had their tropical attire and we went through several cartons of Corona and lots of limes. It was a great time and people stopped by the hospitality suite on their breaks from room to room trading.
At our trade fair on Friday morning the room was starting to fill up at 7:30 am with people looking for the bargains that they had missed the night before. The room was packed with activity until mid afternoon when the early morning start caused some to take a break.
I had an opportunity to check out a lot of tables and the items offered had a great range in quality and pricing. I saw everything from a box of golf pencils, to Royal Doulton pottery, all the way up to an exquisite Hugh Philp playclub. From the conversations I had around the room it appears that many people were looking for clubs to play hickory golf. I managed to find a few clubs to interview for my play set this spring and also passed along a few that didn’t make the cut from last year.
We’re most likely going to do it again next year and we hope that you can turn off your computer and make the trek to Dayton. With a little luck we’ll have weather as nice as this year. Put these dates on your calendar now…. Jan. 11-13, 2007.
