GCS REGION 9 Golf Tournament and Trade Show
GCS Region 9 held their annual Golf Tournament and Trade Show April 19, 20 and 21, 2007, at the Marriott Ventura Beach Hotel in Ventura, California. Fifty one Members and Guests, including representatives from as far away as Great Britain and New York, participated in the events. Early registration was Thursday evening with the golf tournament planned for Friday morning. However, heavy rain canceled the regular event. Thirteen brave souls (?) agreed to a Nine Hole Scramble in the deluge.
The winners were:
1st Place - Derek Swezey, Robb and Kim Howard, Hal Wilson, and Eric Wolke
2nd Place - Patric Anderson, Ray Youngdahl, Christopher Paul, and Bill Culbertson
3rd Place - Chris Mc Intyre, Ed and Cori Durphey, and John Sweeney
The golf tournament was followed by an evening banquet attended by forty one members, including the first president of the GCS, Fred Smith. Following the awards presentations and announcements, John Sherwood gave an interesting talk about how he started collecting and where he thinks our 'hobby' is headed. The meeting was then adjourned to the Hospitality Room.
Saturday morning the full day trade show began at 7:00 a.m. and lasted until mid afternoon. Many walk-ins showed up for appraisals, sale or purchase.
