Golf In Advertising
Golf has long been portrayed as the sport of wealthy, sophisticated men and women. Images of golfers and golfing have been used to promote a wide variety of products and services for more than a century. Manufacturers whose products have no obvious connection with the game are eager to associate them with golf. Even through changing times, the images of golf are still a regular theme in advertisements for everything from cars and clothing to food and fashion.
Shown here are a variety of advertising cards with a golf theme. Some are postcards and others were created purely for promotional purposes. They are selling such diverse items as chocolate, whiskey, hats, stoves, gasoline, coffee and a railway company. Often the quality of the artwork is superb. These items are relatively inexpensive to collect and can be found in antique stores, flea markets, collectors shows, and internet auction sites.
